Why are we Protesting UHS? #ShutdownUHS

One of the largest for-profit providers of hospital and healthcare services in the nation that continues to face allegations of abuse and death in its facilities full of vulnerable patients and at-risk youth goes by the name of Universal Health Services .1

In 2021 UHS received a net revenue of $12.64 billion, primarily through federal and state governments under their respective Medicare and Medicaid programs.2

The claims against UHS follow common themes of medical neglect, overmedication, physical and sexual assault, and inappropriate use of restraint.3 The abuse allegations against UHS come from both the patients and the employees. The employees have shared that their instructions were to put profit over people and to use deception when speaking about the screening and counseling process to ensure they filled the hospital beds and eliminated possible billing scheme suspicions.4

UHS has been caught with over 45 violations, including but not limited to workplace safety and health, environmental, false claims act and related, and labor relations violations,5along with more than 2,800 complaints filed with federal and state authorities over abuse and potential fraud.6

Monique Payne, a 14-year-old at Westwood Lodge Psychiatric Hospital in 2006, is a victim of Universal Health Services. While at Westwood Lodge, Monique experienced headaches of increasing severity which led to her crying for help.7 The hospital ignored Monique and neglected her while being aware she had a brain tumor and didn’t call 911 until she had stopped breathing and later died from complications of a brain tumor.8

Aaron Gower and Amber Mace are also victims of Universal Health Services, amongst many others who have needlessly lost their lives to institutional abuse. Aaron Gower died while in the hands of University Behavioral Health in Denton, Texas after being neglected while his vitals were outside

normal limits on a daily basis which the nurse knew. Amber Mace died after being placed on five new meds while on the five medications she was already taking. Amber began to feel disoriented one night and went to bed without taking her meds. That night the staff tried to wake her, but she was unresponsive, and when they checked her vitals and saw they were outside normal limits, they left her, later finding her in full rigor mortis.9

On February 6, 2023, a protest and vigil is being held at University Behavioural Health in Denton, Texas, at 11:30 am in memory of Aaron Gower by Justice for our Angels and We Warned Them. A protest and vigil is also happening in memory of Monique Payne on February 11, 2023, at Universal Health Services, 367 S Gulph Rd, King of Prussia, PA 19406, at 12:00 pm.10 To help the loved ones of those who passed from neglect and abuse while in the care of Universal Health Services, you can join these protests and generate awareness by purchasing Justice for our Angels and We Warned Them merchandise on bonfire at https://linktr.ee/wewarnedthem or donating through Paypal at wewarnedthem@gmail.com
